While you have this vision of a fun-filled camping trip, many times scrapes and cuts just seem to come with all that fun. Be sure you take a first-aid kit with you into nature because accidents just happen, and it’s always better to be safe than sorry. Don’t worry about over-packing for the kids. Camping can be quite dirty. Children love the dirt. As the day goes on, your kids will get messier and messier. You can’t avoid the dirt, but some extra clothes will help out. Be prepared for dirty clothes and dirty children by packing extra clothes.

When you reach your campsite, the first thing, you should do is to start collecting wood for your fire. You won’t feel like it later on, and if you wait until dark you will have a harder time finding the kind of wood you need to keep a fire going. Do it right away.

Don’t forget to include special pillows made just for camping on your adventure. Don’t bring the pillows you use in your bedroom. These pillows can trap heat during humid weather. As they absorb moisture from the air, they can become covered in mildew rather quickly. Camping pillows use a coating to lock moisture out to improve your comfort level.

Food is one of the most important items to bring while camping. You don’t want to take food with you that will spoil easily, no matter the length of time of your trip. Just a little food poisoning can turn a camping trip upside down. Therefore, it is imperative to maintain the highest level of preparation with your food.

Prepare some of the food ahead of time so you will not have to mess around with it at the camp site. Make up some sandwiches, precook the pasta and take along foods that can be eaten as is to make each meal less tedious. Other meals can be enjoyable to prepare in the woods, but some should be ready to go on the days the weather is not perfect.

Do not forget your cooking supplies. You will need pots, pans, utensils and dishes to cook on and eat with. Make sure that you double-check to be sure that you have packed these supplies before you leave the house. You do not want to get all set up and ready to cook your first meal and find that you have left your pot at home.
