Tips On How You Can Have Fun While Camping

Whether this is the first time camping or you have been camping since you were a child, camping holds a special place in everyone’s heart. It’s a chance to get away to a simpler time and enjoy yourself. Here are some helpful camping tips in order to help you do that.

A great item to put in your camping backpack when going in the back country is a Ziploc bag filled with dryer lint. There is no better fire starting material than dryer lint. It will hold a spark and get your fire going quickly and efficiently. Dryer lint takes up almost no space in your pack and is very light weight.

It is important to establish and set up your shelter before the sun goes down. Once blackness falls out there in the woods, it can be extremely difficult to pitch a tent, find good firewood and prepare food. It can be even more difficult for those who are not accustomed to trying to see in complete darkness. Don’t let this happen to you, and have a shelter set up before dark.

If you have a toddler, pack a blanket. You can lay it out on the ground and use it as a makeshift play area. Bring cars, dolls, or whatever items your child is into. They can play without getting too dirty and you can instruct them that they need to keep their toys on the blanket for safekeeping. This will help to keep things from getting too spread out.

Avoid any wildlife you may come into contact with. Bears have become a fairly large problem with campers. In some parks they have been known to rip open the trunk of a car to gain access to food. Raccoons are also a big problem in many campgrounds. Not only are they smart and can gain access to your food supplies easily, but they can carry disease as well.

Buy some camping pillows. If you bring a standard pillow for the bedroom, they become sticky and hot when the weather is humid. Those big pillows can also mildew, because they absorbs moisture. Camping pillows are covered with a special coating that keeps moisture at bay.

Be certain your camp fire is completely out before you leave a campsite. To your eye it may seem like the fire is gone, but stir the ashes with a stick and you may find burning embers. Pour enough water and keep stirring until you see no more embers in the fire pit.

If you are camping with others, ensure that there is something available to keep everyone entertained. There is nothing worse than a bored campmate, as they will constantly pester you for activities. Talk to your family and friends before hand and make sure they know how to entertain themselves for the trip.

It is important to have a flashlight when you camp, but make sure the batteries are fully charged. One way to be sure the batteries don’t accidentally drain on the journey is to put them into the flashlight backwards. That way if the switch is accidentally engaged, they stay charged. Plus, you know where the batteries are.

Keep a close eye on your dog while you are camping and always keep him on a leash. Other campers might be fearful of your dog, no matter how friendly he might be. You must consider them when you are camping, too. Also, dogs can damage things around your campsite, or another person’s if they aren’t being watched.

Camping is a special time for anyone, regardless of how many times they have done it. You can really do some soul-searching and reflection at the same time you are having fun! So make sure you use the tips laid out here to give yourself a special experience and a pleasant time.
