Whether this is the first time camping or you have been camping since you were a child, camping holds a special place in everyone’s heart. It’s a chance to get away to a simpler time and enjoy yourself. Here are some helpful camping tips in order to help you do that.
If you are traveling with children, give them the opportunity to assist you when you get to the campground. They can carry gear, support you as you set up the tent and look for firewood. Not only will it keep them busy and out of trouble, it will be fun for them as well.
Make sure that the tent you take camping has enough space for everyone you are taking along. A bigger tent means easier movement, which can be useful when you have to urinate at night.
Make sure you have a first aid kit with you. As an alternative, you could pack some supplies in a plastic bag. While hopefully your trip will be free of injuries, you never know. It is best to be prepared so that you can handle anything that happens in the best way possible.
When you go camping, be sure to wear closed-toe shoes. Walking in wooded areas, you can come across almost anything; not to mention things can fall on your feet. You may also want to take a hike. So the next time you go out camping, make sure to wear shoes that can go everywhere you want to go.
Make your kids a “jungle breakfast”. Bring some packaged foods, beverage boxes and even fruits, then tie them to trees near the campsite. When the kids awake, you can tell them to “hunt” for breakfast. This adds a little sprinkle of adventure and excitement to any camping trip.
Try to camp near water, where you can also enjoy swimming. Camping can make you miss your shower. When swimming, you will feel refreshed and cleaner. If you use some biodegradable soap, you can get just as clean as you would at home.
If you will be camping somewhere that is very far away from civilization, then make sure you have told several people where you will be as well as how long you are intending to stay. Ask them to call you on the day you are supposed to return to ensure your safety.
Before camping, get some camping pillows. If you take along a regular bedroom pillow, it can get hot and sticky when it’s hot outside. These types of pillows are prone to taking in the moisture in the air and can even mold if left in wet conditions for too long. Pillows designed for camping have a coating on them that does not all the moisture to be absorbed.
Save space in your bag by leaving mixing spoons and containers behind, and instead just bring plastic zip-lock bags. Place the foods or liquids that you want to mix in the bag, and ensure that the zipper is well closed before mixing. Not only do the bags take up considerably less space than bowls and spoons, but they’re much more lightweight as well!
Bring some plastic totes or canisters with you when you go camping so you can store any food products you have opened. This will keep any critters from swarming around your campsite and it will also keep various wildlife from being attracted to whatever it is you have in there.
Camping is a special time for anyone, regardless of how many times they have done it. You can really do some soul-searching and reflection at the same time you are having fun! So make sure you use the tips laid out here to give yourself a special experience and a pleasant time.
