Pick out your sleeping bag according to what season it is. You are going to be really hot and uncomfortable camping in the summertime if your sleeping bag is rated for sub-zero temperatures. On the other hand, bringing a light-weight bag in the middle of winter could cause you to wake up freezing. Hypothermia can be experienced, as well.

Prior to leaving, take a few minutes to make a checklist of everything that you need. There is nothing worse than getting to a campsite and then finding out that you don’t have what you need to be comfortable. A checklist is a great aid as you are packing. Try to start getting thing’s together several days before you leave so you have plenty of time.

While you have this vision of a fun-filled camping trip, many times scrapes and cuts just seem to come with all that fun. Be sure you take a first-aid kit with you into nature because accidents just happen, and it’s always better to be safe than sorry. A first aid kit or survival kit is imperative for camping. Survival kits must include water purification tablets, a knife, a first aid box, flare gun and waterproof matches. If you are injured or lose your way, this will give you a greater chance of survival. Never leave the kit behind, even for a short excursion.

If you are going camping with your pets or children, you need to take a few extra precautions. Try to teach your kids the basics of camping safety. They need to know what to do if they get lost and should each have a small survival kit. Make sure you have leashes for any pets and make sure they are current with all vaccinations.
